Dried salted mud fish for one please; Why is healthcare sooo expensive?
I’ve been having a lot of womanly pain and side pain. I think it’s all related. My problem is my PPO plan has a $40 co-pay and a $500 deductible. OH WELL!!! I just have to pay it on Friday so I can see a doctor. Rod is taking really good care of me. Yesterday with the whole food poisoning thing, he was there to help me throw up and just held me when I was crying in pain. Not even sure if it’s food poisoning anymore. I wish my company had a better insurance plan but what can I do but work with what I have AND BE GRATEFUL I have insurance.
First Day of Rod’s $100 if you fu** up challenge
I didn’t eat Saturday or Sunday night. YAY YAY!!! First time in a long time two nights in a row.
I managed to outsmart Rodney and also modify my eating from 3 full meals, 3 snacks and grazing to:
3 full, 300 to 500 breakfast, lunch and dinner with a snack of banana and milk; and a final snack dried salted mud fish, an Asian specialty with some rice.
I’ve managed to get the right portion of protein, carbs, fiber (well can work on fiber) and veggies in. I just didn’t eat enough fruit for my taste today.
Today will be a lot easier at work. I just can’t graze anymore. I’ll eat multiple fruits with my breakfast and not eat lunch until 1 pm. Then a full pack lunch and my snack will be my energy bar for kickboxing and yoga.
My evaluation, I can’t do 3 meals and no snacks - that’s too harsh for me. I would be the angriest woman in that office. Gotta have my snacks.
So it’s a fun JIM date with Nygel for kickboxing and Power yoga.

sorry to hear you’ve been in pain - hope you feel better soon, and you can do it! and SNACKS RULEEEE
I have heard that eating throughout the day is better for you metabolism. I try to eat about every 3 hours, 2 of those times just being small snacks. Good job not eating late. That is my vice too! Last night I had a granola bar, but at least it wasn’t worse. We can kick that bad habit. I also really hope you are feeling better very soon.

Sorry you were sick! I loved dry salted fish when I was young, I had no idea they had it in America, lol. Salt probably makes it prohibitive….
mud fish?? hmmm.. can’t say i want any of that. lol i am glad you are feeling a lil better. i wish i had that health plan. mine really sucks. we have a 2300 ded and once that is met, it will pay 85%. pay for your visits as you go!! til your ded is met.
girl boo! i would take yours in a heart beat.

Ew, I don’t know about mud fish hehehe
Hey on my husband’s old plan we had a $1500 deductible and we were paying like $400 a month. It’s BS. I think healthcare is expensive because the insurance companies pocket a lot of the profit and I don’t think it should be a profitable business….my thoughts…
why is my comment not posting!!!

Our insurance is similar to yours, but it’s only a $30 co-pay to see a PCP. And actually, a $500 deductible isn’t too bad. Considering how much a dr’s visit actually costs if you DON’T have insurance at all.
Especially a specialist or something. I mean, honestly, ALL insurance is a rip off if you’re just paying for something you never use… car insurance, home owner’s insurance, health insurance, life insurance… it’s when you NEED it that having it, having paid all those premiums pays off. I mean, let’s say you pay for home owners insurance and NEVER have anything major happen: you wasted a ton of money. But say you paid for it and had a catastrophic flood or whatever: your house gets replaced; your need is met when you’re MOST in need. Same with car insurance: pay for it for years, never need it, money wasted. Some people like me, have totaled brand new off-the-lot cars, and having that insurance when I owed 17,000 dollars on a completely useless vehicle was NICE!
Same for health insurance: if you go to the dr once a year, you might be better off just paying cash. BUT *if* you get super sick and require extensive testing, treatments, and surgeries, having paid those monthly premiums will REALLY pay off, and that $500 deductible compared with your millions of dollars in hospital and doctor bills won’t seem like such a big deal. It’s all in how you look at it.
I think insurance is GREAT.
lol Those are some monthly bills I don’t mind making a sacrifice for.
Anyway, hope you feel better soon!! Way to go on your eating… I see a MET GOAL coming up in the near future!!
As a person in the medical billing field I can say that honestly, for the most part even I feel like health insurance is a fraud. You pay premiums so the insurance company can come up with a million reasons to deny your claim… it makes me so angry sometimes! Part of the reason healthcare costs so much is because doctors have to carry malpractice insurance because people are always sueing. In my opinion healthcare should be affordable without insurance, at least the every day stuff… insurance should be for the big stuff. Oh well… your deductible is really good… your copay is high though… hope your premiums aren’t very high! In any case see the doc before it gets worse… it’s cheaper to treat things earlier rather than later! Feel better!
I just think, doctors SHOULD be paid well. They spend a LOT of time in school, YEARS training, and they perform an invaluable service to the community. Something we literally can’t live without. They SHOULD be the highest paid people. Insurance companies DO look for reasons to deny claims, ALL insurance companies. Think regular insurance is bad, try dealing with a Workers Comp claim. The nurse case manager 9 times out of 10 thinks she knows more than the doctor. (I used to work for a neurosurgeon) Premiums ARE high, but look at just HOW unhealthy we as a nation are. If people would take control of their own health and make it a priority, maybe the entire state of things would improve some. As in, people wouldn’t need so many meds, so many yearly dr visits, so much professional management just to survive, therefore, less strain on the system, less money flowing through it, period. It wouldn’t be so profitable for insurance companies to take advantage of people.
What irritates me, is that singers & actors can bring in the yearly income of multiple heart surgeons, and no one says anything about the cost of a movie or concert ticket. We pay that happily, but let the dr send a bill, and it’s complain complain….
PRIORITIES!
**That’s not directed at anyone in particular, just a personal rant about one of my pet peeves. lol
Sorry to hear that you are in pain
Hope you can see the doctor

Dried salted mud fish….doesn’t sound like something I would eat :O But you are know for eating weird food
Way to go 2 days in a row. They say if you can make it 28 its a habit.
aww I hope you feel much better.
And yea two days in a row is fantastic. I need to eat more than 3 meals as well. I need my snacks or I will eat way way way too much during the meals.
Hope you feel better soon and get to see the doctor. My left ovary has been hurting and I can feel it too so Iam wondering what is going there But I hate doctors so I avoid them until I cannot take the pain anymore.
I’m still trying to find Gogi berries. What is dried salted mud fish? I hope you feel better very soon. Sounds like you are doing really well on your challenge so far. Enjoy your date this evening.
LOL Tina, Goji berries are good for you!!! My boss always have them in the office - dried form. I just put some in my tea. GOOGLE IT hon!
Dried salted mudfish are imported from the motherland or Thailand. Back in my country, not a lot of people have refridgerators so salting is a way to perserve food. My mom loves her salted fish. I eat it once in a while. I just get a big old bowl of rice, add water - just plain water and eat bits of the fish - very salty. It’s an acquired taste.
It’s right on though! My friend Nic told me the same thing - UTI!
Yes, I saw the blog about cranberry juice. My friend already told me to go get it. I have it and drinking it all day. Expensive though $10 for 32 fl oz but that with a ton of water, I hope to flush it all out.
This is not my first bout with a UTI - the first was when I was 18.
I hope I can cure it myself and not go to my appt on Friday. I don’t want to take any man made pills - period!
Ugh ! i am the UTI queen, nancy. I get them from even thinking about drinking 32 oz of diet cola with caffeine in it ! Caffeine, beer, those things help give me a UTI. Not peeing after sexy time too… That will do it. I have been that way my whole life. very sensitive to them. I keep AZO in my medicine cabinet even ! Water, water, water ! Hope u feel better, sweet buddy o mine
Hey hun, I am a teacher so I totally understand what you mean about your insurance sucking. I work with kids all day; you think they would give me the best insurance possible. Nope. We pay out the nose for very little coverage and then they can’t understand why people leave education all the time. I can’t leave though, I love what I do. I just don’t love the crap that comes along with it.
But enough about that. Is it possible you are ovulating. I know when I ovulate I get a lot of side cramping, especially on the side in which the egg ovulated from. It almost feels like period cramps but not as bad. I think it is important that you get it looked at though if it is lasting a long time or is extremely painful. It could be a cyst, and many times they need to be drained. I had a friend who was immense pain, throwing up, sick as a dog. She went to the emergency room and they told her that her cyst was rupturing. She didn’t even know she had a cyst. I really hope you feel better soon.
I know what you mean about insurance. When I started this job I had amazing insurance. They keep hacking away it it bit by bit. Now it’s not so great, but still better than most or nothing.
Girl, I hear ya. I have no insurance…but the state aide. It isn’t great either because no on accepts it!!! WTH? How is that even legal? I sure hope you can get into the doc soon.
Nancy, you cannot get rid of a UTI with anything besides antibiotics, sorry. I’ve seen SO many people thinking that then they end up with a kidney infection because they let it go then it’s really bad. Meds for UTI’s are not expensive, the most common ones are under $10 that you would pick for someone with a UTI.

You are going to worry me now girl!
Take care of yourself and go to the doctor. You are worth the $40.
When I had pains like that I had a staph infection but it was severe pain then went away. I don’t know. You got to just go.
wooooo I wont say anything about the fish.
I hope you get to the doctor & get to feeling better. Nothing is as important as your health.
That’s my Holly!
Yes, I’m keeping my appt and getting those much needed antibiotics. In the mean time I’m drinking water and that cranberry juice - gross!
Umm I’m always up for trying new things, but I’ll leave the dried salted mud fish to you Nancy! =P
I hope you get something figured out and get yourself treated… I don’t want to hear about you getting worse :[
Good
I like it with no sugar added, I like it more sour.
I like to drink cranberry juice anyways
Nancy…dried salted mud fish? ick! I love fish but can’t imagine dragging it through the mud, dumping salt in it before cooking it (bad mental image now)
wouldn’t it taste…gritty? ick maybe I might need to throw up now…
ummm I was being sarcastic, you know that right?
but still…dried muddy salted fish…I guess it is better than some greasy fast foods though!
Dagny, lol!!!! Not sure about the mud fish, but you can have my share!! Sure hope you feel better soon, Nancy, love you!
Sorry to hear about the pain… I have been experiencing that myself lately (and I have no insurance) so I sympathize… I pray all goes well on Friday.
Good job on the manipulation (LOL) of Rod going from 3 meals and 2 snacks to what you really know what you can do… LOL! See I had no doubt in your ability. You go girl!
What is dried muddy salted fish… :\ Is it good? It must be to you huh.
Have a blessed day my friend.
So glad to see you are sticking to the bet to not eat late at night. Sounds like Rod is sneakingly supportive. I can relate to the pains of health insurance, as I see many have. I used to live in Ontario and when you were sick, you went to a doctor, and that was that. There were no bills for it, just for prescriptions. The electives from the company I worked for allowed dental plans (although laughing gas was an extra cost) and even had a 100% prescription coverage (just pay dispensing fee if over $10). I remember watching the movie John Q while I lived there and everyone saw it as such a foreign thing that would never happen. Anyway, I am jonesing for that kind of hassle-free free healthcare here. I have Aetna from work and feel they take 30% of my paycheck, barely cover anything, and only cover that when I go to a doctor without vowels in their name. I hate to sound like that, but I had a lot of trouble when I was young healthwise and always ended up at doctors who I could not understand at all. I know it is kind of prejudice to jump from foreign name=thick foreign accent, but still wish I could just choose a doctor that I friend recommends or one near my work or house or such.
So, I get the salt and dried and fish part. . .but muddy??
