What does $3 buy& I didn’t spend it on Fast Food or junk; HE GOT THE JOB!!!!

I can’t believe it!! I’m so ecstatic. My baby truly has a job. The only thing is I really want him in school full time, but the whole issue with his green card or lack of it as it’s in process, he can’t get Financial Aide to continue on with art school - until his mom comes back from Kenya.
Well, my baby aced both interviews and got a job doing Customer Service/Marketing support for the Orange County Register - and with a background - that’s some good stuff!! See, it helps to be honest and truthful.

Also, I tell you complaining is not my deal and not something I a lot. Like I wrote yesterday - I’m broke and don’t even have gas in both cars - but managed to get a hold of $3.00. You know what I did with it? I didn’t buy cheap, pathetic fast food. No Mickey’s food, No Jack in the Crack, No Carl’s Jr.

Instead I walked to my fav Korean store, bought 2 lbs of carrots, 3 Persian cucumbers, 2 extra large mangos and 3 lbs of Fuji apples. Now, it’s not organic but my point is I bought good nutritious food!

So, I don’t believe the bullsh** when PEOPLE say not having money means it’s time to resort to processed or fast food.

If I can make it happen on $3.00 - ANYONE CAN! I have a receipt to prove it!

See, that’s why I can’t stand it when people complain. I could have sit back and ate the fast food then complain I have no money and ate crap.

With that in mind, I will have all the nutrition and fuel I need to do my triple classes. Case closed!

hey I bought a mango the other day because you always eat them and it sounded good
MAN I need to go out to CA and get veggies and fruits, they are expensive here in Kansas but I know what you mean. I actually save money by making my own food and not eating out anymore

  2. khmerbeauty @ June 29th, 2009

Exactly my point! :) Do you like the mango?

Holly, man, I hope someone doesn’t think I’m talking about them in my blog! Girl,I’m not talking about anyone but just making a point that we all can make choices; I just know real food is more filling then crap!

  3. beckyboo @ June 29th, 2009

That is AWESOME that you got ALL of that for $3 ! That would have been like $15 here !!! So glad Rod got a job—that will help out a lot, huh? have fun at your classes ~~~

I spend more at the grocery store when I am eating nutritiously, but it balances out by what I am not spending at restaurants, vending machines, etc.

“2 lbs of carrots, 3 Persian cucumbers, 2 extra large mangos and 3 lbs of Fuji apples”
OMG, OMG I didn’t know $3 could buy that much! Awesome!
yep look at how much you got for $3 though! That is at least 1-2 days worth of food? I mean, you can’t eat 2 lbs of carrots in one sitting, at least I couldn’t. But had you gone to Mcdonald’s you could have gotten stuff off of the dollar menu…but that would have lasted for 1 meal! So not worth it in calories, anyways. Right?!

  6. Dagny @ June 29th, 2009

ahhh it ate my comment! you will find it though…
are mangos good? I keep seeing them in the store and wanting to try them, but my mom says she doesn’t like them…so I am not sure if I will. They are high in vitamin C and E though…

  7. racheyk @ June 29th, 2009

Wow that’s awesome, all that for $3!! You’re right, it is not worth it to waste your money on crap like fast food, no matter how little you have.

Another great way to get fruits and veggies for cheap…grow your own! If we can do it in our little apartment in NY, anybody can.

  8. grapeape @ June 29th, 2009

I already commented in the forum…just dropping by to say hello and tell you how awesome you are!

  9. skinnychris @ June 29th, 2009

Give Rod my congrats!! I bet he is over the top thrilled…and I think you are too just a little bit!! LOL!!

    Enjoy your fruit!!

  10. Raytchaelle @ June 29th, 2009

Congrats on your man getting the job! I know how hard it can be when only one of you is working. Anywho… good job on getting all of that good stuff for only $3!! Wow! Korean markets rock!
I bought a mango for the first time over the weekend and they really are good. Also tried a fresh pineapple… WOW! Never going back to canned. ;)

  11. sabrinaBB @ June 29th, 2009

Organic food is expensive here(I am trying to eat mostly organic) but when I think about the future on junk food I am sure all the doctor bills will be more then some nice fresh fruit and veggies now :)
Girl you got a lot of nice food for three bucks, you need to do the shopping for me ;)
And…. CONGRATS to Rod for getting the job…that is just fantastic :D

  12. tabbathaanne @ June 29th, 2009

Congrats to Rod. =] And congrats to you! Guess 3 little dollars go a long way huh? =] I wish it were like that out here in the middle of no where!!! It cost me 89 dollars and some change to buy some healthy food… for TWO WEEKS! Oh well. To me it was a splurge well worth it. =p I guess I could have shopped a little cheaper. I guess I should just learn from the master. All that and 3 bucks!? You gotta tell me the secrets!!! =p

  13. LittleFlower @ June 29th, 2009

Yeeeeeeay for Rod. I am so happy that he got the job!!!!!! And good on you for getting all that fruit. You wouldnt get as much as that for €3 over here though… you might get like 6 apples and a bunch of bananas or something.

  14. Isa619KizzaSD @ June 29th, 2009

Wow you sure made those $3 stretch! Good for you and not to mention you bought alot more than any junkie fast food will give you in one meal.

I think our problem is LAZINESS, it’s much easier to just drive up and order than walk through the produce isle and do some simple math picking what we can eat…. lol

    Congrats on your man’s job!

  15. kerstinaparton @ June 29th, 2009

first off all yeah for Rod. So happy for you guys.
Second.. i always thought it is a cop out saying one has to eat fast food because there is no money. What fast food is about 5 dollars. Go in teh produce isle in any grocery store and you can get a VERY full meal just in veggies…
Cucumbers, carrots bell peppers cantelope apple etc. But that is what it is AN EXCUSE… if it makes people feel better so be it.. As long as WE do not do it who cares about other peoples excuses..
Sorry for being harsh but I am having a terrible terrible day…

  16. inspiration08 @ June 29th, 2009

congrats to rob and good grief- all that for three dollars?! seriously, i for three dlooars you wouldn’ thave been able to get even one mango, let alone, two plus carrots and cucumbers!! that rocks. :) lol- you rock.

  17. ready2bskinE @ June 30th, 2009

I’m soooo impressed with how much good stuff you got out of that $3!! Here, the apples alone cost almost $2 per pound. :( Of course, we don’t grow anything in Arkansas except cotton. LMAO Oh, and rice! You’ll see guys on the side of the road with trailers of watermelons and what-not, but that’s sketchy to me.

I’m so excited for Rod!! Starting a new job can be so much fun! (And having extra income ain’t so bad, either!) :D

  18. AndreaJacobs @ June 30th, 2009

Tell him Congrats. That is so awesome. My fiance is also looking for a job so I know how that goes. He has an interview tomorrow so hopefully you will send some good vibes my way.

I must say though that the fast food industry has gone out of their way to make food cheap. Darn them. I agree with you to an extent that you can get vegetables and fruit and eat healthy. But it isn’t always as easy. If I went to the grocery stores here in Utah with $3.00, I sure wouldn’t leave with that much food. But I also agree with the comment that in the end it all balances out when you aren’t going out as much.

  19. easybreezy @ June 30th, 2009

I honestly have no place like that here where I could go buy all that for $3.00, but boy do I wish I did I would be there every week stocking up on my fruits and veggies!! I would never take my money and buy fast food with it when you could get so much more out of it or better healthier stuff out of it at least.

Everytime I think about buying something I think of a blog you posted a long time ago stating would you rather go through a drive-thru for 5 bucks or get a bag of oranges for 5 bucks which will last you longer? you wrote so everytime I pick up my bag of oranges I think of you miss Nancy :]

I’m so happy for you and Rod tell him congrats on the job it’s such a great accomplishment for this economy and one day he’ll get back into school when the time is right.

  20. angelsandrams @ June 30th, 2009

congrats to rod!!!!! wow 3 dollars!! i wish i could buy all that for 3 dollars!!!!

  21. kamaperry @ June 30th, 2009

Congrats to Rod!!! Yay!! I know that is a big relief!! And I know the green card thing will work out too.
You so proved a good point with the $3.00, is DOES NOT have to be expensive to eat right!!

  22. xtadecitrus @ June 30th, 2009

Congratulations Nance… I literally shrieked readin ur blog title.. Sorry I havent been online for a while.. Been preparing for the big day tmrw, goin back to Indo. I wont forget to wave to Cambodia for ya :D Cu when i get connection again!! (errr in asia? superslow yeaa) Ciao2!

I know I’m late but can someone do the Bootie Bounce for Rod! And I need you to shop for me and fedex to St. Louis, it still will be cheaper than me shopping for those same things at the store. I havent been to the farmers market in years. Maybe I should go take $3 and see what I can get. LOL.

  24. lessinayear @ June 30th, 2009

That’s awesome about Rod’s job! HOORAY!

Your $3 definitely stretched — wow! We’re JUST starting to get local produce in at the local farmer’s market here. It’s not that cheap, but it’s a lot less than any of the grocery stores here, and I can’t wait to have some super-fresh veggies! :)
