Customizing bootcamp to fit my needs; What size did you wear at different weights?

3445587.jpg

Unfortunately I slept in again and did not get my run in.  But I will.  I will get a run in before the weekend is over.

I did get to the gym and did almost two hours of my  own customize bootcamp.  For the past few months I’ve been venturing off and doing my own routine.  One in which I pick out all my favorite moves and customize it to fit my needs.  I still go to a weight class once in a while but for the most part everything is in my head.  I love the freedom to do my own routine.  I keep it fresh and fun.

I received a number of emails asking me what my bootcamp is like.  Above is a picture of the basic equipment.  The  goal is never stop moving.  Unlike doing pure weights, whenever I do a cardio/interval circuit style I stick to lighter weights.  Then later in the week I go back to just a pure weights routine.

What I do is warm-up on the elliptical to get my blood flowing.  Some light stretches and off I go.  I hit the low row and lat pull down, the only two machines I use, to work my back and some shoulders, tri’s and biceps.

Then I take off for the aerobics room, set up and start with a cardio on the step.  I pull a lot of technique from my step class for this.  1 to 2 min later I do an upper body move.  Then back to either the BOSU for a cardio and weights combo or back the the 3 tier steps for a 1 to 2 min. cardio fix.  Then I move back to all weights say, lower body…..etc.  I usually try to hit 4 to 5 sets of 12 to 15 reps of everything.  Then I do my push-ups on the BOSU, planks….back to cardio, weights and so forth.  I keep a lot of walking lunges with the medicine ball or barbell.

I usually do not do a full body workout like this more then once a week because of how fast my lower body tones up.  Thus I do this once a week and upper body twice a week if I have time.

I was drenched in so much sweat.  I just couldn’t get myself to pull through for a run.  Like I need one anywayz.  The cardio was incorporated in the routine so it’s not that needed.

I never keep it the same ever.  I do what comes to mind.  Then I cool down and about 20 min. of yoga to stretch and meditate.

The bbq I went to, I did very well.  Luckily for most Cambodian BBQ, the focus is usually the meat, veggies and fruits.  Unfortunately they brought out donuts and I had just one.

To my question of size, do you ever wonder what size you would wear at a certain weight?

I know for me I wore a size 18 going on to 20 at 220 lbs.

When I made it to 180 lbs I typically wore 13/14 and was able to shop from normal size stores.

Now at 142 I wear a solid 7/8 with a few smalls here and there.

What I don’t understand is how some people say they were a certain size at a  certain weight.  Like, how can someone who weighs 220 lbs or bigger wear a size 12?  That doesn’t make sense to me.  It makes me say, what was I doing wrong at 220 to be wearing an 18?  My cousin tried to tell me she is wearing a large at 220 lbs - I COUGH BULLSHI*!

Yes, I know size vary by designers, but come on, does that make sense?  Let’s be realistic because that shi* ain’t real.

I hope to make it to a  5 and stay there, but my body is really happy where it’s at now.

Well, I have a lot of exercise planned for tomorrow.  Better to not say what it is till I do it.  I don’t want to lie to myself.  I hate it when I write something down and don’t follow through.

You are such an inspiration sweetie! I’m at 208 and 5′3″, wearing a solid 16-18. My tops are usually x-tra lg or 1x cause of the boobies ;) after 3 kids, my tummy hates me, or I’d probably be in a solid 16. When I was 130-150’s, I wore anywhere from an 8 to a 12 depending on designer. Some people crack me up that wear sizes WAY too small for their frame. It just looks bad :( ugh…Hope you get your run in sweets! sorry for rambling :)

At 191 I am still wearing my size 20’s! I did try on a pair of 16 jeans today and I could button them, but the belly still hung over=( I have never been able to wear jeans and feel comfortable in them unless I’m like 150. (I’m 5′7 by the way). Most of my clothes are stretchy that I wear on a daily basis. I do have a whole closet full of 9, 10, 12, and 14 clothes that I wish I could wear. When I was @ 150-160 I could do the 9/10. ohhhhh I can’t wait =)

I am 5′4″ 200 pounds and a solid size 18:( I guess it all depends on height and bone structure.

  5. beckyboo @ June 21st, 2009

    at 278 I wore a 22-24
    at 250-260 I wore a 20
    at 240s I wore an 18
in the 220-230s a 16 and now at
205 ish I am in 14s and some small 16s, mainly in denim. I am still wearing xl and xxl in tops though cause I am tall and have broad shoulders.
I know people who lie abt what size they wear too. Oh well, let em think they are fooling someone—there the one’s lying to themselves :)

The BBQ sound delish and sounds like u did well !

    Happy Sunday tomorrow, Nancy ~~~

me at 252-255 i wear a size 22-24 and yet on my top half i can wear XL sometimes…because im extremely flat chested but mostly a 2X…but yea i know some people who seriously have no clue what size they are supposed to wear and some people have really small hips but a really huge stomach and they button their pants under their big ol bellies hahaha…so they wear strangely small pant sizes..i dunno…weird

  7. grapeape @ June 21st, 2009

    I am 5′9 1/2. I weigh 223 and I wear an 18 pant and a 14/16 or xl top. When I was at 240 I was wearing 20 on bottom and 18/20 or 2x on top. When I was 160 YEARS ago, I was in a 12.

wow ur awesome! making your own routines, thats so cool. i just put myself through the classes whether or not i like the different drills. and congrating on having self-conrol–with only eating one donut, i feel like a failure after a bite and end up binging =/. but write it down and you’ll get there–I know it! keep it up!!

  9. sayalot @ June 21st, 2009

The size is definately a weird thing. With me, at 218 I was wearing a 20 or 22 pants. My biggest part is my belly. (I have a medium frame and I’m 5′7″) Now at 189, my 18’s are just starting to get a bit loose. I have never been able to stand wearing tight jeans or pants, though. Not even when I was a teenager and wore a size 3.

  10. lessinayear @ June 21st, 2009

I think the height thing has a lot to do with size, and of course where you carry your weight. I’m so short that even at 202 (where I’m stuck, it seems…sigh) I’m in a size 18, with some 16s. But I can hardly wear any shirts that aren’t at least an 18 or a 1X, because of the boobs…

I do love reading about your routines and your commitment, Nancy. You ARE an inspiration!

  11. jennifer0414 @ June 21st, 2009

Great job on the workout! I guess that means I should get dressed and go for a walk!!! Well I’m tall, 5′11 so I was able to get into 18’s at 245lbs.

  12. Dagny @ June 21st, 2009

Awesome hardcore workout! I hope to become as advanced as you are…someday!
With the sizes, I think it depends on height. I am 5 feet 7 inches. At around 280-312 I could still wear size 26 pants and 26-28 shirts.
Then around 260 I was in 20-24. I was 230 or so around size 20. And size 18 came around 215-220 pounds. The last size I got was a size 14/16. I had to start buying clothes at Walmart because Fashion Bug went out of business in my area. Unless I drive very far away…
But the clothes my friend gave me is a large (I don’t know how to convert that to the numbers) I sometimes feel that they must be an XL though because how is it that I can wear Large? I am obese…I hate the tricks the fashion industry plays with us.
Well I have never been at a healthy weight before so I am not sure where I end up at, but I am hoping to be maybe a size 9…
I think muscle plays into it to. Some people can have muscles which are smaller (and toned) compared to fat and still weigh alot but because it is muscle and not fat they might be able to wear a smaller size?

  13. coolbird30 @ June 22nd, 2009

I am SOOOO glad you finally posted this one!! I’m 5′3, right now at 197 I can wear a 14/16 on top and 18/20 on bottom. I could possibly fit a 16 on bottom, but it gives me a muffin top.. and who wants that!?!?!?! Unless a person who weighs 250ish pounds is close to 6 feet tall, I just DON’T see it possible that they could fit into size 12’s!! NO WAY!!!! sorry charlie!!! I don’t see the point of lying about it, either. We are here to support you all no matter what, but please be honest with not only yourself, but with us!!

Sounds like that bootcamp is great!! An interesting discussion about clothes sizes! My biggest size was uk 20 (US 18) and this was at 225 lbs or above. I’m 5ft 8″. Now at 192lbs I am comfortably wearing UK 16 (US 14). My goal is to be a 12-14 (US 10-12). I am tall and broad so I think anything smaller wouldn’t look right!!

  15. hotmama @ June 22nd, 2009

Your bootcamp sounds like alot of fun. Have you ever considered being a personal trainer? I think you would be great you talk the talk and walk the walk so you would be a great personal trainer.

  16. staceycapps @ June 22nd, 2009

This has been very interesting reading what size everyone else is wearing. I am always curious myself. And I have a cousin who weighs over 300 and she’s one of those that says she wears a size 22….yeah right! She is only 5′4″. I wore a size 4x, 3x 26-28 when I was in the 260’s. I got down into the 22w about 230ish, then 20’s when I was at 220 or so, and now I am in an 18 for the most part but stretchy pants I can wear a 16. I think too that muscle tone has a lot to do with our sizes. Someone who is more fit would wear a smaller size than a person who is not as fit weighing the same.

Thanks for posting this! Very interesting!

  17. ceranm @ June 22nd, 2009

nancy!! that workout sounds great and very intense! its great that it basically comes from your own experiences with working out! SO GOOD!!! and i totally agree about writing stuff down and not following through it makes you feel like you let yourself down at least thats how it is with me!

  18. Trubeauty @ June 22nd, 2009

Your bootcamp looks interesting and very intense. I have done outdoor bootcamp b4. Indoor bootcamp seems doable now that its winter in my part of the world. Thanks for the idea and info. At 227lbs am size 20/18.

  19. weightlossnewb @ June 22nd, 2009

good question Nancy! At 5′3 & 119 lbs I wear jeans size 7…I always wonder too, why some people who weigh more will say they are a size 7 as well, but everyone’s body shape is differnt though!

  20. xtadecitrus @ June 22nd, 2009

Err.. I am 5′2 and at 124 I wear size 6-7. Nancy, I wish I were as hardcore at exercising as u. :((

  21. ready2bskinE @ June 22nd, 2009

Sizes really CAN vary a lot, and especially the S-M-L in different stores. I’m 5′5, 133 lbs, and I can wear anything from a 9 in some jeans from way back in the day to the size 5’s and 4’s I bought last week. They do this thing called “vanity sizing” and it’s just crazy. Sizes are getting smaller for bigger girls; that’s why they say that 0 is the new 2. Not cuz it’s so much cooler to be skinnier, but because if you stay the same small size and let the designers change the labels, you’re a 0 instead of a 2. (In my opinion)

And it’s crazy, cuz in some tops I need a large, but just last weekend, I was trying on some sexy halter and strapless tops, and I needed a SMALL in several of them. Since when is 34C SMALL??! LOL Crazy….

When I was at my heaviest, 195 I wore an 18. Of course it was cuz my belly was so huge, cuz those jeans always sagged in the ASS… LMAO Even now, if my belly were smaller, I’d be able to wear a smaller size; there’s always plenty of extra room in the butt and hips of jeans that fit my waist, no matter what size they are. :(

Love your routines Nancy, you little hottie!! ;)

  22. kamaperry @ June 22nd, 2009

Love your bootcamp idea! Wish I was that creative. I depend on a dvd. Well as of now I wear mostly 8-10’s and alot of smalls. At my top weight of 234 I wore 22’s. Why lie about our size? We are only fooling ourselves.

  23. Lori @ June 22nd, 2009

    Very interesting Nancy

I’m not sure why anyone would lie about their size.
If you don’t want to say your size just keep it to yourself but why lie?
    Who really cares anyways?

    I was a 22 / 24 at 265 pounds a 3x
sure theres some variation in sizes for different peoples body types etc but really, come off it.

    I love you Bootcamp

As always you are such an inspiration!

  24. kyliejo @ June 22nd, 2009

Hum…well when I was 232, my biggest I stopped wearing jeans or any fitting pants, I wore stretch pants, sweat pants and if I had to, I wore tight 18’s. Now at 174ish my 16s are big but I have one pair that fit, I have 14’s that fit but some that are too big, and I have a pair of 12’s that fit well. I have tried on size 10 jeans at Macy’s and they fit well but this past weekend I went to GAP and could barely squeeze my butt into a 12 but the 14’s were a little big. My top is always a large, it was a 2X at one point but I’ve lost quite a few inches on my chest.
Even this weekend my shirts will fit everywhere but my chest so it stinks. I am hoping to get smaller and then can wear button up shirts.
