Y ARE U WEIGHING EVERYDAY??????? Exercise is great - but please rest UP!!!!
Look I’m just going to make this short! Why do you feel you have to weigh everyday? Why do you want the scale to CONTROL YOUR FEELINGS? Why do you want the scale to dictate YOUR LIFE!!!!! The scale is A MEASURING TOOL! It’s one tool only!!! You are sabotaging your efforts by getting on that machine day in and out and several times a day!!!! Put it away - use it once a week, naked in the morning after you pee and before you eat. Then put it away!!!!!!
If I weigh myself each and everyday you all would be dealing with a BITCH! The scale doesn’t move for me - for months now!!! Do you think I let it bother me? Sometimes but most times not!!! You know why? BECAUSE I AM MAKING A LIFE CHANGE!!!! I’m not LOSING WEIGHT!!! I want to be HEALTHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, as much as I love to exercise - I RESPECT AND LISTEN TO MY BODY!!! I will not exercise everyday of the week. I will not run my muscles to the ground!!!! What I do is give it everything it needs, food, water, weight training, yoga for flexibility, pilates for core, cardio for the heart. But not EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5 times is the MOST ANY OF US SHOULD WORK OUT ME INCLUDED!!
REST is just as important as the exercise!!!!
SO PLEASE - PLEASE - DO NOT LET THAT SCALE BE THE CENTER OF YOUR WORLD!!!!
RANT OVER!

Well I can’t help but think that was aimed at me. I don’t know why all the caps were necessary. Kind of took my good mood and made me feel really bad.
AMEN SISTER! Thank you for putting this blog up! It drives me crazy all these buddyslimmers out there weighing every single day! Yikes!! Don’t do it ladies!! Once a week like Nancy says!!
I feel U totally!!!! I HAVE to hide mine in the closet, otherwise with it in the bathroom I will step on it every time I go pee. Not good at all.
Take care girl!
Keta, this is not aimed at you! I’m here hours on end and I read almost the same thing. I’m just putting it out there to say - you can do this without the scale!!!!
So if you feel it’s towards you then that’s on you not me.
I know this struggle too well and to watch people get discouraged by a scale then do a backslide - that’s what I don’t want!
See, I care about this community and I want to see success and I HATE IT WHEN I SEE PEOPLE SAD OVER THAT FREAKIN NUMBER!!! That’s it!! I care!! If I don’t do you think I would be on here?
Do you know how much I want to cry right now??
It bothers me so much that the scale is going to make a person happy or sad. Let’s celebrate the little goals attained - and the stupid scale will follow us!!!!!
lol i use to weight myself everyday now i look at the scale and im like dont even think about ti scale i know what you want to doo…make me think im not trying and i am. so once a week is good for me!
lol @ keta… I felt like it was towards me too but I always find it funny when people do the whole caps thing. I just posted a blog about not being able to resist temptation to the scale so it was kinda funny.. You are absolutely right though, especially if you have tendencies to let the scale bother you, you shouldn’t be weighing in every day because weight fluctuates and one day youll lose, one day you’ll gain…. I’m just addicted to stepping on it lolz…
Mel, Keta I have not read your blogs so obviously it’s not geared towards you individually!!!
I have yet to read blogs today so again - this is in general. I do take my time to read blogs and especially for newer people to the journey they have a love/hate relationship with it.
My point is to be happy with how far you’ve come and continue make postive changes in life. The scale - it’s nothing but ONE piece of machine!

Oh girl, I wasn’t sure how I wanted to comment to this. You know that I weigh myself at LEAST twice a day? Okay, make that three…once when I first get up, once when I’m done with my workout, and once when I change into my pajamas. Here’s the thing…I do it out of habit. Yeah, I’m curious what the number says, but I don’t let it dictate my mood. When I see it go down, I think to myself “Yep, doing something right.” When I see it go up I think “Okay, gotta try harder.” And then it is on to the next thing. Wait, let me back up…I ONLY do that with the number that I see first thing in the morning because that is the one I use for my weekly weigh in. And you know as well as I do how I have been plateauing. So yes, I am a “few times a day weigher” so I guess I could feel like this blog was directed at me. However, I’m not sensitive, I know you well enough to know that you have our best intentions as heart, and I know that what I’m doing isn’t the best way to weigh in. It is what works for me and I encourage any one to do what works for them (as long as it’s healthy). What I do agree with you on is that you SHOULD NOT let it dictate your life. Plain and simple. Now, with all of that being said, I also know that you are stressed, you are PMS-ing, and sometimes you care too much. Of course when you read my email you will know what I mean there and won’t take offense. Okay, I gotta get back to work now. LOL
Certainly, if scale is a big thing, and spoils someone mood, it should be put away. However, it is a useful tool in day to day meal planning, and some research shows that people who weigh themselves every day have more success in losing weight and keeping it off. I don’t really see journalling every piece of food as viable since I cook myself and don’t have a handy chart, so I use the scale and approximate portion sizes to see if I am eating the right amount to have the healthy loss, and not going to either extreme.
ANJ - YOU SAID IT BEST HON!!!
Ahhhh gotta go back to work before I blow a fuse in my head!
This is what I needed!!! I am so close to giving up right now(like have been thinking about cancelling my account close), just over this trying to lose weight thing. I am still enjoying the gym so maybe I should give up on the scale for a while and get my eating healthy again. Thanks.

Whatever you do, enjoy something. If I enjoyed the gym my life would be much more social. But with twin 2 year olds the money for the gym daycare of a babysitter isn’t happening and I hate leaving the house in winter. It will be over soon. But, the scale does not tell everything. When you plateau remember to measure your trouble zones. They lose when the weight does not move. Really.
I weigh every day cause I likes my graph!

Methinks I will also begin to graph my waistline, one day y’all will thank me for these graphs!
~Renee’
Aemn Nancy!!!! Why drive yourself nuts? Weighing every day just sets yourself up for being upset!
As for the exercise, I totally believe in a rest day
This is from our Tracey - TexasGidget…”a lot of how the scale falls depends A LOT on where your food the day before fell. If your eating was high in sodium, etc., you may see more of a weight gain the next day…it’s a tool for me and I use it, but REALLY, I don’t let it control me. It’s a measurement process for me to show me how my eating needs to fall for the day. I don’t let it get me down or control what I’m doing because I’m ABSOLUTELY in this for the LONG HAUL! I didn’t gain it overnight and it’s not going to come off that way. I have to take it one day at a time and make changes DAILY.”
Nancy types in all caps when she gets wound up!
Don’t take offense to it!
LOL Too right, Betsy!
Ouch. That’s some real tough love.
Like, Keta.. I felt like you were talking to me! I specifically mentioned in my blog today how that number can sometimes affect my mood.. especially when there’s a gain and I’ve been working my ass off! I know though, and have made it a point to mention in my blogs that I shouldn’t be checking daily. I just really needed to know that my new plan has been working. It is after all, only week one. I’m taking a fellow buddy’s advice though and am going to track my measurements in inches.. so maybe I won’t obsess over that number on the scale so much.
LOL at the weighing yourself naked and after you peed everything out in the morning. My method too! I thought I was crazy.

Nancy,
It’s funny how everyone feels this blog of yours was directly dedicated to them personally….lol How special!
For some reason I didn’t get that feeling from reading this blog. Even though this is a big problem for me that I have to hide my scale..lol
I understand what you meant and wanted to just put out there and “WE” (all who determine their mood and happiness based on the scale) should relax and truly understand that this weight loss journey is much more than a number.
There are many other tools of weight loss besides a scale we should be using.
Measurements
Dress/Pants size
Fat %
BMI
Endurance
Strength
Energy
Compliments from others noticing
Breathing easier
Lower cholestrol
And on , and on, and on.
Don’t take it so personal people. It was meant to be a concerning blog.
Take care.
Hey girl, great message. Dont worry, we know you love us. Now, remember that you love me too when I softly ask…sweetie, there are no sharp objects around you are there?? I dont want you throwing anything at anybody in fustration…love ya!!! debbie
I definitely get where you’re coming from- for someone who lets the scale affect their mood dramatically it’s not a good idea to weight everyday. However, for myself I’m a big advocate of weighing everyday. It lets me know where I stand daily, which I like. Of course it’s not always the number I want it to be but it’s daily motivation for me to say either ok I am doing great or I need to work a little harder.
And yes, our bodies do need rest!!!
Love your post today! I used to exercised everyday and I weight the least, but was also tired all the time….simply not a good feeling.
Lately it’s been SO hard for me to lose weight and I’m considering heavily whether I should start doing exercise everyday again…but after reading your post…NOPE I’m not gotta.. “The most is 5 days” i will remember that!
Thanks
You know, I’m just going to put it like this - my blog my opinion my words and my point of view.
Thanks for to my friends who knows me for CLOSE TO A YEAR! And also knows that after 4 going on 5 years of maintaining and keeping 70 lbs of FAT off my body that I have a pretty valid opinion.
What you all do with yourself is not my business.
But I will not be there to support your blog when you whine about why you are miserable today and why the scale doesn’t move.
Isabelle you are right! Thank you hon!
I speak my mind in my blog. I didn’t go to anyone’s blog to call anyone out. I contained it here!

76 lbs of fat off for 4 years! Correction whoops
LMAO I read this AFTER I just put a picture about a sad cat in the wildcat forum “worried” about my weigh-in tomorrow. Honestly, I’m hoping to see a lesser # than last week, but if it doesn’t OH WELL. All hope isn’t lost. I’ll be cool and I know what needs to be changed to make it better.
I only get on the scale Friday mornings so I can give the weigh-in, but honestly I never owned a scale BEFORE I joined the Wildcats because I never wanted a # to tell me how to feel. I only knew my beginning weight because of check-ups at the doctor’s office. Otherwise, I would’ve never known. I am looking forward to my goal, but only IF I feel a better, healthier person and can maintain the lifestyle. Otherwise, the # means nada!
So yea, I get why you disagree with people weighing in everyday, but not everyone gets discouraged with it. Some people the “negative” and make it into a positive & it works for them. To each his own.
I’m a monthly weigher. No worries here!
I support you Nancy, and I agree that each one should do what works for them. I just know I was too emotionally wrapped up in the scale. I just can’t stand that someone’s whole emotional makeup would rely on that. If you are just curious about your progress, then cool. But don’t let it determine your whole day, or if you are “Good or bad”.
Nancy, You crack me up. I agree with you. People, if you weigh everyday and DON’T get discouraged with a gain, props to you. But for those who do, it is best to avoid the scale for a few days. Opinions are opinoins. No need to attack anybody for stating theirs. Love ya Nancy! Congrats on your 76 pound loss!
OMG Nancy. This is like the second or third time I’ve seen ppl get all worked up over your blogs.
I agree with you though. No matter HOW often you weigh, it’s not a great idea to let that stupid # dictate how you feel about yourself or your efforts. It’s just ONE measuring tool.
Good point about the exercise. I read somewhere that even 24 hrs of not using any given muscle group, though, can have some kind of negative effect on your progress… I *WISH* I could site the article or at least remember exactly what it said. It def. had me freaking out about taking a day off though. But NOW I think… Well, if NANCY only works out 5 days a week, it MUST be ok! That’s the effect of keeping 76 lbs of FAT off for FOUR years! LOL People (like me) think you MUST know what you’re doing!!

Shaina, looks like you know what you’re doing too! I agree with Nancy and so many on here. It is going to be your prefereance, but if you are going to let that scale ruin your day, than stay away. Weekly weigh-ins should be frequent enough to ‘know how your doing’. If you’re going to weigh every day, than don’t complain about the numbers because they are not always going to show you what you want. If you ate salty foods, drank extra water, have your TOM, there are so many reasons that scale can show you a false number. Take it in stride, and I promise to keep all sharp objects away from dear Nancy! Love you girl!!
I honestly find it more motivating, when i look at the scale every day. I’ve tried not looking at the scale, but then i think it leads me to do bad things. I’ve decide not obsess over it…so every other day vs. every day or once a week.
As for working out a run every day isn’t so bad. But like major 3 hour workouts every day proably isn’t the best for your body.
LOL i think it’s all a matter of opinion. We all lose, and stay healthy in diff. ways.
Naomi, I love how you veered off topic and called me out on my exercise. It’s perfect. I love it. Trust me - I’m going to keep mum because you don’t want to hear what I have to say.
Nancy doesn’t work out 3 hours every day, she takes Thursdays and Fridays as off days! And obviously she’s doing something right, look at her photos and her progress! If you want to weigh yourself everyday, fine, that’s your preferance… it’s Nancy’s blog and she has every right to get her feelings out in it, just like everyone else can get their feelings out in their blogs.
I’m going to be a good buddy and keep that opinion to myself.
Thank you Nicky - thank you for taking the time to read my blog not summarize. I appreciate it.
I wasn’t trying to be rude…i was just saying it’s a matter of opinion. I never said you worked out 3 hours a day…i was just giving examples. I just think it’s all a matter of opinion, no one is right or wrong. Yeah Nancy does look amazing. And I am working my to get into shape and be healthy. But i wasn’t trying to offend anyone.
Nicole - when was the last time I did 3 hours this week?
So if that’s what you took from my post my aplogies..not what i intended. I did read your blog…so i will keep my opinions to myself because i wasn’t trying to offend anyone
Yowsers! What a plethora of opinions you have set off today Nancy dear! You know I agree about the weighing in thing; I guess if it works for some people than ok- however it gets irritating to read those same people’s blogs and they are complaining that they gained 1/2 a pound since this morning.
And I do think you know what you’re talking about with the exercise; that’s why everyone comes to you for help! Love ya girlie- don’t take all the junk personally…people sometimes are just not satisfied with themselves so they have to be mean to others who they are jealous of. Deep breaths!
Someone said one day in their blog that only 1 in every 10 or so people loses weight and keep their weight off for more 5 years - then I want to be that one if I can.
My blog was not geared toward any person, or anyone who has a healthy relationship with the scale.
I’m talking to those who worries about that number way too much and it effects their day and their mood.
I used to weigh myself 10 times a day, every single day for 2 years!! All it did was lead me to binge and gain weight.
So, I’m not talking out of turn. I have been there and do not want to see other buddies so discouraged by the scale.
Healthy relationship with scale - then good for you. I’m happy.
It’s true you didn’t make it to your 3 hour frenzy this week because of your sore neck, but you only do 3 hours like what? maybe 2 times a week, if that?
Considering I am a memeber of a weight loss group that only measures success by the scales, I am dependent on what that number says. But with that being said, I can also see personal success by the way my clothes fit. The scales today show that I am up but yet my pants are loose in the middle, that has to mean something right?
I try not to get on the scales everyday but sometimes I just gotta know. And most days I can shake off the gains but celebrate in the losses.
And exercise everyday? Forget about it. I’m not killing myself like that. My body needs a break and it is more than happy to tell me when. And I do listen!
Nobody should take your blog personally. obviously it is geared towards people who weigh everyday, but your just trying to be helpful. I wanted to let you know I appreciated your blog and found it to actually be pleasent. Great advice.
You know I used to weigh everyday (multiple times too) and I’m proud to say that I weigh once a week for the Wildcats and also now to see if this Bugg is doing it’s job. After giving it up for 2 weeks I forget I have a scale. I was actually going to weigh myself today for tomorrows weigh in, but I forgot lol. After about a week or 2 w/this Bugg I think I’m going to do it Nancy style once a month… it is so so freeing not weighing everyday. Thanks for encouraging others even if they found you offensive.
Oh Nancy, you know how to get everyone all geared up hehehe. I know you were speaking in general. I have been thinking about getting rid of the scale again. I don’t weigh myself everyday anymore but once a week is almost too much. I have friends (at school) who weigh everyday and they count if a pound is lost…my thought are the pound isn’t gone unless it stays off for a good amount of time. I don’t count it unless it is out and door and out of sight completely.
Ha Ha Ha. This is NANCY’S blog. She wrotes it for herself and for whomever would like to read it. Everyone is just as equal as the next so why any one person thinks it is aimed at them, we are all just people here
Girl, I am an EVERYDAY weigher. I am like Anj. I go by my just outta bed, just took a pee and have no clothes on weight. Sometimes I hop on before bed sans clothes just to see how my booty weight fluctuates throughout the day. My own curiousity. Weighing in each day motivates me to work hard at this. I am not a downer in the scale dept. I ALSO like to type in all caps sometimes. I do this at work just so I dont accidentally not cap something or of I want certain words to stand out cause people are visual folks… I know some are more sensitive than others—but come on buddies, this chic is one of the MOST outgoing, supportive and caring people I have ever encountered. She is not pointing fingers nor is she attempting to make anyone feel badly about themselves. She is all about helping people be happy. And I am pretty sure she would care about anyone, no matter what they looked like or their stake in life—she is a lover! I can tell
For crying out loud, she befriended her boy’s ex, now that takes a special girl
And I am going to keep on weighng every day hee hee hee !
LMAO!!! You definetly evoked some strong emotions with this one! I’m trying to stay off my scale, but not because it determines my mood. Basically, I want weigh in day to be a surprise. If I lose 4 lbs in one week, but I see it 1/2 lb at a time, it is not nearly as exciting as seeing the scale drop 4 lbs all at once. Not that I have seen that yet, but I’m just saying is all….
I wanted to let you know that I decided to try out yoga last night and it kicked my butt!!! I did a yoga for beginners. It started off really nice and relaxing. Within minutes it was becoming more difficult but not something I couldn’t handle, but by the 15 minute mark I was finished. I really wanted to do the last 5 min, but I couldn’t!! My body was pure jelly. But it must have done something because I’m sore in places I didn’t even realize I had muscles in!!!
hi there! i’m one of those people who weighs all day long, but it doesn’t effect my mood it helps me be real and know my bod. what effects my mood is sleep and the way i am eating and if i have exercised or not. i hear you on not wanting to see people obsessing over some number - i feel the same way about looks determining how one feels or someone else determining how one feels or all the ways we are told to be effecting how we feel. it’s yucko how much sh*t is tied to weight and appearance - you know like confidence and worth. i wish women could be ok being themselves as long as they are being healthy. even skinny girls obsess about the number daily…
nancy….i understand what you mean….if the scale is going to upset you then don’t wi everyday….if you just going to use it as a guide….or as a motivator….then it’s ok to use it…and about working out 5 days a week works for me….thanks for the advice hon

Wow, Nancy… you gots some ppl worked up today… yourself included! Sheesh… let me just start out by saying that I weigh multiple times a day most of the time, but I still didn’t think your blog was aimed at me. Since I’ve known you, when your blog is aimed at something… you SAY so. Other than that, I figure you’re just writing what’s on your mind.
LOL, SO IF YOU EVER HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY TO ME, YOU’LL HAVE TO SPELL IT OUT IN BIG CAPITAL LETTERS!!!!! hehehehe
I used to weigh everyday too! Then I found the cure! lol
Sometimes in the morning (like 3 or 4 am) I wake up and I go to the kitchen, and guess what!? Nope, wrong no midnight snack. I drink about a cup of water!
Then hours later when I do wake up I tell myself it is pointless to weigh myself since I have been drinking water since 3 in the morning. Of course I do not do this on WildCat weigh ins! lol
I actually worried when I started to do this that maybe it was something like Diabetes that made me thirsty…but nope it is just my body now craves water!
Your blog literally cracks me up! You get the best responses from people!
Personally, I weigh in on Sundays. I gained one pound the first week and then lost 2 the following week. Only reason I do it is to check my progress on how I am eating. Exercise is good and all, but I have never been a dieter. My philosophy is eat less, not more….but I am no where near as disciplined as I should be….so I keep myself in check with the scale. Before I started getting serious a month ago, I literally had not stepped on a scale in over 5 months! I dislike scales! But they keep me more mindful of what I am eating. But everyday? I’d drive myself crazy! As an RN, I already know that weight fluctuates constantly within 5 pounds on any given day for most people. Sodium, bowel issues, and hormones are only a FEW of the factors involved. Weight should be viewed as a TREND, not as a specific magic number. Anyway, have a great day and hope all is well with your friend!
i dont understand why so many people are takin offense to this blog. its nancys bog…therefore she is aloud to voice her opinion…we all come here for support, and to learn new things, this is something that has helped her to lose so much weight and keep it off! so its just another thing we can use! i look at the scale all the time…but i did not get offended by her blog at all.
Haha, I completely agree Nancy. I weigh myself once a week if I even get around to that! And working out every day isn’t good. At least one day of rest is better then none! When you get on the scale every day your weight varies so much throughout the week that you just depress yourself because one minute you are 1 lb down the next you are 2 lbs up…it’s crazy and I also agree don’t do this for weight loss do it for a life change. It’s a proven fact that people who exercise and eat right just to lose weight will eventually just gain it all back!
Ok I have to say this tooo…IF PEOPLE ARE TAKING OFFENSE TO THIS THEN THAT MEANS YOU KKKKNNNNOOOWWWW YOU HAVE A PROBLEM! Don’t get mad at Nancy just because she is speaking her mind IN GENERAL! She wrote a blot a while back that I felt was directed towards me…did I mention that? Know because when you take offense to something then you know you are doing something wrong. I would always come and go from this site and just do it whenever I decided to get back on the site! She wrote about how if you are going to be on this site and you’re going to be serious then do it but don’t waste everyones time when you are not! MY PROBLEM NOT HERS! Geeze.
I don’t see why people are getting all defensive on Nancy’s behalf. A few innocently thought the blog was aimed at them, myself included(only because ironically I had JUST blogged about my scale woes right before her post came up), but I didn’t see one comment with anyone taking any REAL offense to it or trying to start any fights. I didn’t see one comment telling Nancy NOT to share her thoughts. I do think this turned into a healthy and productive thread of people sharing their own opinions and habits.. but I don’t see the need for anyone to get so worked up!
And sorry Nancy, I know this is YOUR blog and I was referring to you in 3rd person.. lol. I just noticed that so many people were jumping to your defense, but I didn’t really see a need for it. I feel like it was just adding to the negative vibe. No one was really going against you. I think we all appreciate what you have to say. And if there ARE any haters.. I don’t think they commented you today.

Good point! I weighed in every day and it was doing me no good. It can be hard to weigh in once a week, but it’s a lot better for me.
I used to over-exercise a lot and I agree, everything in moderation.
Great blog as usual Nancy!
holy cow there are a lot of comments!!! but i totally agree, thats why ive put my scale away and decided to weigh once a month. screw the #. if my actions are on point then my body can only get smaller. once a month is enough to look forward to weighing in and enough that it will always show a smaller number, so it will always be motivation!
Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many comments to one blog. I am guilty as charged. I just discussed this with a girlfriend and she suggested I should put the scale in the closet or even in the basement if I can’t stop weighing. I can’t do anything but laugh! I am officially removing my scale from the bathroom and will try to weigh only once a week!
Hey there my friend!!! There for quite awhile I weighed EVERYDAY! I couldn’t resist putting that in all caps!!hehe I was ruled by that damn scale-if it didn’t read what I thought it should, then my mood went immediately sour. I decided a few weeks back to only weigh 1 time weekly-on Friday. It has made such a difference for me, and I actually think it makes me work harder. My days are now much happier because I know the choices I am making are healthy ones-that is what is dictating my mood-not the scale.
So in response to your blog-you are right on in my opinion. Honestly, I really value your opinions and your suggestions, etc.. I owe you many thanks for steering me in the right direction with your knowledge & support. So, THANK YOU!!!! Once again..couldn’t resist the caps button!!! hehe!!!!
Love ya much Nancy!!

Okay, I said I would read it so I did….Wow did I miss out yesterday…or maybe not? I am stressed out just from reading all the comments. I don’t really want to get in to who is right and who is wrong…as I think opinions are opinions and can therefor never be wrong…bla bla bla…
as this is why we’re all here) and you either take it or not. It’s totally up to you.
Guys please don’t get upset over something like that. Nancy wrote her opinion about something and you either agree or not. But you don’t need to get all wired up about it. Everybody here will give advise at one point or another (at least I hope so
((BIG HUGS)) to everybody! Love you all!
Wow you sure do have a lot of comments. I started reading them all but didn’t finish because there are tons. I can speak for myself when I say that weighing every day is terrible. I am normally a 3-4 time a week weigher (trying to lessen that to 2). For one week I weighed myself every day and it was terrible. I let that scale control my life for that entire week. Even now I find that I weigh myself more when I’m up. I want to keep checking to see if it is going down. Of couse if it isn’t then that just makes everything worse. On the other side I do know several people who really do best when they weigh daily. They are able to seperate everything and realize the fluctuations. I don’t think most of us can handle that though.
